Each week, discover one of the members of the Network of Houses and Museums of European Musicians. These places link the past, present and future, they honor a tangible and intangible heritage and fulfill an essential cultural purpose in Europe. This week we present Le Dimore del Quartetto (The Homes of the Quartet), a promotion and dissemination network for young string quartets and trios. It organises working residencies in historic and prestigious heritage sites as well as concert series. The Dimore del Quartetto leads the European programme MUSA Young MUsicians soft Skills Alliance.
Le Dimore del Quartetto is a creative cultural organisation based in Milan, Italy. It supports young international string quartets and chamber music ensembles at the beginning of their career while promoting the rich European cultural heritage. Le Dimore del Quartetto was born in 2015 on the idea of Francesca Moncada and started on the basis of a simple exchange: on the occasion of an artistic engagement, the musicians are hosted for up to a week in a historic house and, during their days of residence, they offer a concert to the owners of the house.
Dedicated to Giulia Maria Mozzoni Crespi, founder of FAI who passed away on July 19th 2020, the video has been created by Le Dimore del Quartetto in collaboration with FAI Fondo Ambiente Italiano for the European Heritage Awards 2020 Ceremony of Europa Nostra, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme. The Quartetto Indaco plays the second movement (Vivace) of Ludwig Van Beethoven's quartet n.16, op.135 within the wonderful setting of Villa Panza in Varese.
.
Today, Le Dimore del Quartetto has built up a solid network of houses, musical ensembles and partners in the fields of music and cultural heritage, including the Centre Européen de Musique. The organisation specialises in the planning and management of numerous projects. These include festivals and cultural itineraries, masterclasses and training programmes for musicians, educational projects for schools and universities, activities for companies, residencies and concerts in historic houses and other places of cultural interest. It is therefore only natural that this organisation should join the Network initiated by the Centre Européen de Musique.
In 2017, the activities of Le Dimore del Quartetto were presented at the Chamber of Deputies, upon invitation of the Cultural Commission, as part of the research “Best practices of cultural diffusion“.
In 2018, it won the “Cultural Innovation” call by Fondazione Cariplo.
In 2019, Le Dimore del Quartetto was among the winners of the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2019, the most prestigious prize in Europe, in the “Education, training and awareness” category.

In the same year, Le Dimore del Quartetto was presented as “Project of Influence” by The Best in Heritage.
In 2021 Le Dimore del Quartetto organized the 150th anniversary of the passing of Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso through a cultural itinerary which leads to the placement of the first statue dedicated to a female historical figure in Milan. (Photo below).
