The CEM is pleased to support and share the initiative of the Maria Callas Foundation, a valued member of our Network of Houses and Museums of European Musicians.
The Maria Callas Foundation is organising an exceptional screening of the film Callas Paris 1958, directed by Tom Volf. This rare documentary captures Maria Callas’s very first recital in Paris, performed in December 1958 at the Palais Garnier during the Gala of the Légion d’Honneur.
We invite you to relive this legendary recital, described by the press at the time as "the greatest show on earth".
The footage comes from original audiovisual tapes, rediscovered by Tom Volf in Athens in 2021. Thanks to the support of the Maria Callas Fund, these invaluable archives have been carefully restored and colourised, now presented for the first time entirely in colour and in 4K Ultra HD, meticulously restored from the original 16mm reels.
This film is not available on any streaming platform — making this a unique opportunity to experience a legendary recital in the splendour of the Opéra Garnier, and to relive the emotion of an unforgettable moment in operatic history.
It is possible to support this project through a crowdfunding campaign, launched to finance the restoration of original audio and video recordings that were entrusted to the Foundation.
These valuable archives are intended to be digitised and eventually made available to the public.
