On the weekend of 22 and 23 June 2024, the Villa Viardot, located in the magnificent setting of the Domaine des Frênes in Bougival, vibrated to the rhythm of music during an event punctuated by numerous activities. Organised by the Centre Européen de Musique (CEM) in conjunction with Bougival town council and in partnership with a number of associations, the event was a true celebration of music, education and well-being. Here is a report on this exceptional weekend.

The first day got off to a great start with a masterclass led by the CEM's founding president, Jorge Chaminé, accompanied by renowned musicians such as Rudi Gatti, Amory Cazal, Nadja Dornik and Jamie Rock. This session offered singers, pianists and chamber music ensembles the opportunity to perfect their art in front of a live audience. The morning continued with a Jammin' ShowCase, an activity that gave Frédéric Ippolito the opportunity to present the environment in which musicians learn, teach, rehearse, play, share and disseminate music.

In the afternoon, a round table on music and education brought together various speakers for interactive presentations and workshops, creating rich interactions with the audience. Les Concerts de Poche opened the session with an inspiring performance, followed by Ostinato who delighted the audience with a musical presentation. The Tutti Passeurs d'Arts workshop then took over, giving the audience a brilliant introduction to brass instruments.

The day ended with the signing of a "Music and Education" agreement between the CEM and the associations present, marking an important step in the promotion of music education. In the evening, participants were treated to a presentation of the Nissapolis project on the metaverse by artist Djando, who had already produced a digital portrait earlier in the day. This innovative fusion of music and digital art captured the audience's attention and imagination, and the evening continued with the screening of the film 'The Sound of the Carceri', adding a cinematic dimension to an already emotionally charged day.

The second day began with another masterclass, followed by tours and a lecture at the Turgenev Dacha (which was open throughout the weekend). Participants also enjoyed guided tours of these historic sites, enriching their cultural experience.

The day was also marked by the on-site creation of a magnificent portrait of Pauline Viardot by the artist Djiango. The portrait is part of a series on women who have marked and been forgotten in history. The afternoon round table on the theme of "music and the brain" brought together experts to discuss the benefits of music on mental and physical health. Care composer David Bismuth presented the 'U-sequence', an innovative approach to music therapy. The discussions were moderated by Alexis Merville, CEM Administrator and Nadine MacKenzie, Health Advisor at Music Care, with the participation of care composer David Bismuth and Music Care founder and CEO Stéphane Guetin.
